“Gdańsk Meets Lübeck” – Nearly 6,000 Guests at the HanseKulturFestival
Under the motto “Hanseatic League – Artus Court – Bankenbrüder,” the Bankenbrüder opened Haus Hansestadt Danzig during Lübeck’s HanseKulturFestival.
Haus Hansestadt Danzig had never experienced anything like it: Nearly 6,000 visitors came to the museum during the HanseKulturFestival in the Seafarers’ Quarter from 5 to 7 June 2026. They learned about the museum, enjoyed the hospitality and were impressed by the historic interior. For us Bankenbrüder, it was a tremendous success.
Museum exhibits were presented, and guests could learn more about amber, the “gold of the Baltic Sea,” and the history of the Bankenbrüder. Food and refreshments were also provided.
Preparations by several Lübeck Bankenbrüder and their wives had already been under way for months. On Friday, with the support of more Bankenbrüder, wives, sons and daughters, the doors of Haus Hansestadt Danzig could finally be opened.
Amber cutter Lothar Schwarz from Kiel presented his work in a tent outside the entrance. His display complemented the opportunity to enjoy the hospitality inside and learn more about the house and the Bankenbrüder brotherhoods.
It was a special compliment when visitors told us, “Friends recommended you to us,” or “We were already here yesterday” – a wonderful reward for our voluntary work!
